The internet has become possibly the most influential invention in the history of mankind. It is perhaps the most important educational, communicational and business tool on the planet. It’s hard to even imagine our lives without the internet. Not being able to look up any piece of data or fact with the simple click of a button, or to be able to talk or chat to people on the other side of globe with the simple stroke of your keyboard. It’s really hard to imagine how the internet came to be the mega giant that it is. The internet started with the archaic dial-up connections that slowly began to drive us insane. The incredibly slow connection speed and the annoying modem chatter slowly drove consumers to demand a newer more efficient connection. The increasing size of downloadable media and the ever increasing presence of java-filled websites made dial-up internet absolutely unbearable. Soon DSL and cable modem connections came around and put dial-up internet services such as AOL and Compuserve out of business. These high speed broadband internet connections were able to deliver speeds of up to 30 to 45 times that of dial-up connections. However, with the increased speeds, there came a major drawback. These high speed broadband services are only available if you live within a certain distance of your local internet service provider. Therefore, if you live in rural America outside of major cities, then you may be out of luck when it comes to high speed broadband internet. However, these worries are now becoming a thing of the past now with the advent of satellite internet.Satellite internet is able to provide added flexibility because it operates via your satellite dish similar to a satellite TV system. A broadband satellite signal is transmitted from an orbiting satellite in space which delivers a powerful broadband signal directly to your satellite dish. Your satellite dish connects to your DSL or cable modem which in turn connects directly to your computer or to your router. Therefore, if you are within range to receive a satellite signal, then you are eligible to receive a broadband signal through your satellite dish. There a few drawbacks to satellite systems, with the biggest one being that satellite systems are normally pretty dependent on the weather. Therefore, if there is a fog or a thunderstorm then you may not have a broadband signal for the duration of the storm. So if you live in an area that sees a large amount of rainfall or snow, you should reconsider purchasing a satellite system. Make sure to consider this along with the other drawbacks of satellite systems before making a decision on your satellite service.
Satellite internet has completely revolutionized the way that rural America connects to the rest of the world. Now, no matter where you live, you are eligible to receive high speed broadband internet. If you need any more information about this service or any other high speed internet services, contact your local internet service provider.
